“The past is a place of reference, not a place of residence; the past is a place of learning, not a place of living.”― Roy T. Bennett

Hello lovely souls :) How are you all doing? Winter has taken over again here in my part of good old England. We had snow today! I do love it though. Today was one of those days where I felt so tired. I felt so much peace when I walked back into my house. I am so truly grateful for my home. This past year has made me feel so blessed with what we have. It really has been all put into perspective for so many of us. I sometimes get overcome with the many emotions that I have experienced in this past year, but I am so grateful for my mental health toolkit I have that helps me to ground myself in the present. I wanted to share with you all a simple but effective tool. It is called square breathing technique. Box breathing is a simple technique that a person can do anywhere, including at a work desk or in a café. Before starting, people should sit with their back supported in a comfortable chair and their feet on the floor.

1) Close your eyes. Breathe in through your nose while counting to four slowly. Feel the air enter your lungs.

2) Hold your breath inside while counting slowly to four. Try not to clamp your mouth or nose shut. Simply avoid inhaling or exhaling for 4 seconds.

3) Begin to slowly exhale for 4 seconds.

Repeat steps 1 to 3 at least three times. Ideally, repeat the three steps for 4 minutes, or until calm returns. Here is a gif for you all to use and practice if you want:) Have a lovely day gorgeous souls and stay safe out there xoxo
