Hello lovely souls:) I hope this finds you well. Finding a grounding technique that works for you is not as easy as some might think. Here is another technique that can help you during those moments where you need to take a step back and ground yourself mentally and physically. Distraction can be a useful tool if negative emotions become too overwhelming. Here are some examples of using distractions as a grounding technique. Please be aware that distracting yourself for the purposes of grounding yourself is different to distracting yourself to forget and not work through the emotions.
⊙ Pick a colour and try and find as many things you can see that has that colour.
⊙ Pick a category and name all the things you can about it.
⊙ Count backwards by 5 from 100.
⊙ Recite a favourite peom, song, or quote.
