“It's so curious: one can resist tears and 'behave' very well in the hardest hours of grief. But then someone makes you a friendly sign behind a window, or one notices that a flower that was in bud only yesterday has suddenly blossomed, or a letter slips from a drawer... and everything collapses. ”― Colette
I asked the lovely Meri to pose with me for this shot. I wanted to do an emotional shot that conveyed my thoughts for today. We are allowed to shed tears. We are allowed to learn from these tears. It is important to question assumptions, biases, and prejudices.
We often protect ourselves emotionally by distancing ourselves from what we fear or do not understand. Instead of judging others, we should all question our assumptions about mental health. Why do we think like we do? Are our biases affecting those around us? Where did we learn to be biased? Where did we learn to fear? These are important questions to ask so that we can better understand and support one another.
Here is Meri's amazing version. I am constantly learning from her. Her editing skills are to die for.
